Whether you come to BFDB to begin the design process or you come hand in hand with an architect or designer, the most important thing is early and frequent collaboration. Timber framing and custom building is a detail oriented trade, and the more that is settled before the build, the better the product.

We start with a vision board, flow and bubble charts, and go from there. As your dream begins to take a definite shape, we’ll begin computer modeling. The software we use at BFDB is compatible with almost all design and architecture firms, so no matter who is involved in the process, good communication is certain.

What about engineering? BFDB has long worked side by side with engineers (many of whom are enshrined in the timber framing community) to ensure a structural building and to deliver a set of stamped plans to satisfy any building inspector. Because timber framing is such a historical craft, we can look to buildings that are centuries if not millenia old for assurance. Pair that with modern engineering calculations and you can rest assured your timber frame will last through the ages!
